Meet the team
Simon
Co-owner and director. Is the main mechanic and works in the shop and does the occasional bit of coaching. Moved around as a child and ended up in Essex in 1983. Studied engineering and became a teacher, mainly in special needs. Switched careers and trained as a counsellor, and worked part time for Sustrans, which led to starting this business. Has two splendid grown up children, and two not so splendid dogs. Works as a child counsellor for 1 day per week. Spends far too much time talking politics and playing cricket. Loves canoeing, walking or cycling, especially in the hills. Loves to cook, but has a tendency to overdo the chillies. Once caught 40 x 10p pieces balanced on the same arm: at the time a world record!

Community Development Officer. I am passionate about encouraging others to cycle at whatever level. I was a Special Needs teacher for 30 years and have volunteered at Just Ride Southend since its inception. I am also a Cycle Coach and lead British Cycling “Breeze” rides to encourage ladies to get back on their bikes for friendship and fresh air (and, of course, coffee!) In my spare time I love reading, playing my cello, riding my bikes (solo and tandem), crafting and spending time with family and friends.

We love cycling!
Hadleigh Park Cycles Community Interest Company was incorporated on 18th March 2019. It has two directors, husband and wife team Simon Broad and Kate Broad. The company was formed to provide cycle services and bike hire at Hadleigh Country Park, Essex, the site of the 2012 Olympic Mountain Bike track. Simon had previously worked for Sustrans (the sustainable transport charity), based at Hadleigh Country Park. He grew to love the Park and enjoy cycling there, so when the opportunity arose to lease a part of the Hub, he and Kate knew that running a company based around cycling was exactly what they wanted to do.
